Beilein announced his intentions Wednesday on Twitter, writing that he plans to coach MI during the 2018-19 season and "in the years to come!"
The University of MI men's basketball coach announced his plans to return to Ann Arbor for the 2018-19 season, and many seasons after that.
The Pistons reportedly met with former Milwaukee Bucks coach Jason Kiddthis past weekend and there were reports about the franchise also interviewing Juwan Howard and Kenny Smith. "Let's go hang some more banners at the greatest university in the world". Back in May, Beilein told the Detroit Free Press that it was close to getting done.
Beilein, who has been the head coach for the Wolverines since 2007, had interviewed for the same position with the Detroit Pistons. He has guided the Wolverines to two Big Ten titles, eight NCAA tournament appearances and two national runner-up finishes. "But I would like. the Pistons (to) consider bringing in Isiah Thomas as their president of basketball operations".
Beilein and MI are finalizing a contract extension, according to Brendan Quinn of The Athletic. "Beilein had talked separately with Gores and Detroit management in process, league sources said". The Wolverines have made the title game twice under Beilein: this year, and in 2013 against Louisville.
