The plan is to host the London Series again in 2020, in order to establish a "long-term footprint in the city".
"We are bringing you one of the best rivalries in baseball", MLS Commissioner Rob Manfred said on Tuesday.
London has oftentimes played host to middling or low-level teams for its NFL and NBA games, but MLB appears to be going all in by showcasing its premier rivalry in the form of the Yankees against the Red Sox.
"I am absolutely delighted that we have secured this historic agreement for Major League Baseball to come to London in 2019 and 2020. All the hard work has paid off", Khan said. The series will be MLB's first-ever regular-season games in Europe.
"It's also the first time the Red Sox and Yankees have played one another outside of NY or Boston", added Henry, who also co-owns English Premier League side Liverpool. There is no better way to start the London Series and the first Major League Baseball fixture in Europe than a clash between two heavyweights of global sport - the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox.
"We could not be happier that Commissioner Manfred has been able to make this a reality", Red Sox owner John Henry said. The venue will host Major League Baseball games in 2019 and 2020.
London Stadium holds 55,000 people and is the home for West Ham United Football Club. "That fact, coupled with the nature of the rivalry and our desire to make the most out of the London series, made this the ideal choice for the London outing".
