2 shot dead at MI university campus

Two people were fatally shot in a dormitory on the campus of Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant on Friday morning. They were the parents of a student who was apprehended by police

Police urged everyone to Call 911 if you see this individual and he should be considered armed and risky.

"Police believe the situation started from a domestic situation", the school said in a statement.

In response to the shooting in Parkland, Florida, in which gunman Nikolas Cruz used a semi-automatic assault rifle, students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have made public appeals for change to permissive USA gun laws. Anyone who sees him is asked not to confront him, but to call 911. Reports indicate two people have died.

The suspect was still at large and considered armed and unsafe. According to initial reports from local news outlets, two people were shot near the fourth floor of Campbell Hall, one of the university's dormitories.

The university, located about 125 miles (200 km) northwest of Detroit, said two victims, who were not students, were fatally shot at the residence, which houses male and female students.

James Eric Davis, described as a university student, remained at large.

Several law enforcement sources confirmed a Central Michigan University student shot his parents to death Friday when they came to pick him up for spring break.

Michigan State Police, Mount Pleasant Police, and the Central Michigan University Police Department have set up a perimeter to try to pinpoint Davis' location.

Klaus says Davis was taken to a hospital Thursday night by campus police because of a drug-related health problem, possibly an overdose. He was wearing a black hoodie and mustard-yellow jeans, but apparently has been shedding certain clothes since the shooting. Police found "a number of articles of clothing" as he fled the campus north along railroad tracks, Klaus said. "I remember hearing it and I was like, 'Hmm. what was that?' And then a call from CMU police came in a few minutes later", she said. SWAT Team and Federal Bureau of Investigation are on the scene.

"Once the doors close and something happens and there's an active shooter like today, you can lock them from inside the classroom and you can't lock them without a key".

There were no other injuries, according to the school's website. "We had the campus on lockdown".

The university's student newspaper, CM Life, reported that classes at the university were canceled and the school was placed on lockdown.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is available.
