Barcelona was truly phenomenal against Girona in a La Liga game played at Camp Nou on Saturday evening and the performance that the entire team produced in the 6-1 triumph got the whole stadium on its toes.

The hosts took less than two minutes to get back on level terms, though, as Messi collected the ball in midfield before sending Suarez through to score.

Semedo, a 24-year-old fullback, joined from Benfica for a reported fee of 30 million euros ($37 million) last summer and has appeared in 26 games for Barcelona, starting 20. The win over Girona was Barcelona's 32nd league game without a loss after going undefeated through all 25 rounds this season under Ernesto Valverde plus the last seven from the last campaign under Luis Enrique.

Girona took an early lead through Cristian Portu, but Luis Suarez quickly cancelled out the strike when he slotted home three minutes later.

He mesmerized by scoring a Ronaldinho-esque free kick that slid under the jumping Girona wall and past the right hand of the goalkeeper. "It's hard to get used to, especially because we're talking about a player about whom we say we've seen it all, but Messi always surprises you", said Valverde. You see it and you think it's easy.

Suarez completed his hat-trick in the 76th, tapping in a cut-back from Ousmane Dembele.

Bono finally bested Messi by tipping his latest free-kick away from the top corner and touched a late header from substitute Thomas Vermaelan on to the bar.

"The club's medical services department has confirmed that first-team player Nelson Semedo has suffered an injury to his left hamstring".

Girona fell into ninth place. Instead Ronaldo presented the spot-kick to Benzema, who rounded off the scoring. The Frenchman made no mistake, converting from the spot in the 89th minute. Benzema had snapped a run of almost three months without a league goal by scoring against Real Betis last weekend and was one of Real's best performers in their fifth consecutive win in all competitions.

It was the first real glimpse of what Barcelona's front three are truly capable of when they are all on top form.
