BB&T bank customers can't access accounts due to 'technical issue'

Several of BB&T's banking services unavailable due to technical issue

"As our systems being to recover, our ATMs and automated Phone24 service are now available", BB&T officials said in a statement around 11 a.m. Friday.

A BB&T outage left millions of customers unable to access their accounts across the U.S.

Company officials say they're willing to work with customers who experienced any issues related to this outage.

On Friday afternoon, a BB&T customer contacted 11Alive because she was not able to access her bank account to check her balance on line.

"Customer frustration and anger appears to be growing by the hour on social media, as the bank vaguely blamed "an equipment malfunction in one of its data centers" for the outage".

BB&T told customers on Friday that they can still use their bank-issued debit, credit and prepaid cards. Wells Fargo's customer-service Twitter page on Thursday night said that the issue was fixed.

And that was just Friday; the Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based company said that the outage began Thursday afternoon. "At this time, we have no reason to believe this issue is related to cybersecurity".

The bank operates more than 2,100 branches spread across 15 states as well as Washington, D.C. It's now ranked as the 15th largest bank in the United States with assets of at least $220 billion (£157.5 billion) as of September 2017.
