Jammu Military camp assault: JeM terrorists injure three armymen, soldier's daughter

Two Junior Commissioned Officers of the Army were martyred while two senior officers were grievously injured along with seven others, including five women, in yet another audacious terror strike on Sunjwan military station by suicide squad (fidayeen) of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in the wee hours of Saturday. The attack took place early in the morning, the attackers were a group of Jaish-e- Mohammed terrorists.

"The army has killed two militants in the ongoing operations inside the camp", an army official told Xinhua.

The Congress on Saturday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "personally supervise" the operation against the terrorists who attacked an Army camp in Jammu.

While there was no action around the main entrance and vehicles were moving along the Jammu-Lakhanpur bypass in front of the camp, army personnel in bullet-proof vehicles engaged in the operation to rescue people from the family quarters in the rear side of the base. Security agencies had sounded a high alert last week for February 9 and February 11, the day Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front founder Maqbool Bhat was hanged in Tihar jail in 1984.

The Army identified the slain soldiers as JCO Madan Lal Chaudhary of 4 JAKLI (Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry) and non-commissioned officer (NCO) Muhammad Ashraf Mir of 1 JAKLI. Schools in the entire area around the camp have been closed by authorities as a precautionary measure.

The terrorists, who attacked the Army camp in Sunjwan, located on the outskirts of Jammu city, were believed to be from the "Afzal Guru squad" of JeM.

In response to Rao's tweet demanding action against Akbar Lone, Omar said, "You let us worry about the MLA".

"They've been cornered in one of the family quarters". Almost a dozen soldiers were killed when militant attacked the camp in 2003. Unofficial reports said that two children have also been killed during the attack.

The National Conference also distanced itself from the Pro-Pakistan slogans that were raised in the assembly after the BJP condemned the attacks.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti this afternoon chaired an emergency meeting with top state government officials, including the J&K Police DGP SP Vaid, to discuss the situation.

Earlier, the state police informed that three security personnel and a civilian suffered injuries in the attack.
