In addition to partying it up with the students, Drake also wanted to reward James for her essay and surprise her with a massive $50,000 tuition check.
On his Instagram, Drake posted a picture of himself on the water with the caption: "Miami thank you".
Many who were in the store took to Instagram to share their experience with the rapper.
"Drake told me that he has read great things about me and appreciates how hard I've worked through so many trials and made a decision to give me $50K for my tuition", she wrote.
When asked how many customers were beneficiaries of the rapper's kindness, the store manager wasn't exactly sure: "I don't know, 40, 50 [people]", Hernadez estimated.
Drizzy also appears to have swung by the Lotus House Women's Shelter in Miami to deliver a $50,000 donation. Billboard reached out to Drake's reps to confirm the amount and they offered a "no comment". I'm just a girl from Denmark, SC that wants to MAKE IT and be somebody and for you to see my hard work means the world. "Leandro passed by our local supermarket yesterday & Drake @champagnepapi was there paying for people's groceries", wrote another fan.
Drake also surprised students at Miami Senior High School, where he filmed a music video and donated $25,000.
It was her past scholarship essays, highlighting the hardship of growing up in a low-income, single-parent home, that had spurred the singer to help pay for James' tuition, The State reported.
