DeMarcus Cousins' Achilles injury 'doesn't look good'

NBA All-star Cousins could be out for season report

Blockbuster Deals That Would Blow Up the NBA Trade Deadline

New Orleans Pelicans big man DeMarcus Cousins might be out for the rest of the season with a torn left Achilles tendon after an awkward fall in Friday's win over the Houston Rockets. Cousins and the Pelicans were waiting on MRI results for the injury Saturday morning.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Cousins suffered a torn left Achilles.

This is extremely bad news for Cousins.

Seldom used Asik seems to be the only player whose contract they'd have real difficulty moving. So, I don't want that to happen to a guy who is trying to better himself.

The Pelicans have won seven of their past eight games to climb to sixth in the Western Conference standings with a 27-21 record. They'd be able to thoroughly dominate even the Golden State Warriors in the paint thanks to their length, versatility, athleticism and two-way ability. Cousins will now focus on his recovery before he tests free agency this offseason.

"I'm healthier", Gordon told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle earlier this week, when comparing his injury-free seasons with the Rockets to his time in New Orleans.

Particularly troublesome is what the injury is.

New Orleans would be wise to contact Utah, especially considering Favors seems to be a more natural center. However, although Matthews has come back to play healthy and regularly, his game has never reached the level it did before injury. Right now, the center will have to rehab and get back to form from the injury. Kobe's ability and desire to play through, and quickly recover from, injury was the stuff of legend. Even if they make the playoffs, this feels like a lost season. And this could significantly impact his future. This group, along with James (one of James' friends) would present Calipari with an option to coach an ultra-talented team with familiar players.

For the Pelicans, however, such factors are incidental.

For the Pelicans, it's a huge blow to their playoff hopes and puts a big burden on their plans in the future.

On a fairly shallow team, the Pelicans will now have to make Davis the focal point of their offense, and they'll have to scrape together points to replace Cousins' nightly average. And all of that is now in doubt.

All of that remains to be seen, but it's really lame we have to ask these questions.
