Given that he can do whatever he wants because he's not under contract, Jericho chose to challenge Kenny Omega over the weekend, and now he's set to face Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 12 at the Tokyo Dome in January. More than 20 years later, Jericho will return to the Land of the Rising Sun to participate in a dream match for modern-day wrestling fans. Some people were tricked into thinking the rivalry was real as Jericho kept saying Omega was overrated.
Wrestling fans thought Jericho vs. Omega would have happened in October 2018 during a special cruise ship event staged by Jericho himself. The two of them will be facing off at the biggest New Japan show of the year, WrestleKingdom 12, on January 4 at the Tokyo Dome. Jericho wrapped up his most recent WWE run a few months ago, and he's now a free agent.
All of that means that Jericho has a huge backlog of brilliant - and sometimes forgotten - matches, many of them disparate in style from the type he has fought in WWE over the last decade.
This will be the first time that Jericho has worked for New Japan since early 1997 when, under a working agreement with WCW, Jericho traveled to Japan to wrestle. Omega cut a promo after the match, saying that he would wait for someone to come out and challenge him for the title.
