Cops: Woman shoots homeless man for asking her to move her Porsche

Police said Melton asked the driver of the Porsche, later identified as Quackenbush, to move the vehicle. He and the woman started yelling at each other.

Katie Quackenbush, a single mother to a 5-year-old boy, had driven a friend back to her auto when the women reportedly saw Melton harassing other women in the street nearby, Jesse said. She then fled the scene in her Porsche, according to the release.

The 26-year-old, who is a single mother with a five-year-old son, was arrested on Monday night.

Quackenbush, an aspiring rapper and country singer, is being held on a $25,000 bond.

But Jesse Quackenbush, her father, says his daughter was only trying to defend herself after being accosted by Melton, claiming that the homeless man made sexual remarks towards her and her friend and then threatened to kill them both. The news station reported, however, that Monday's arrest was not the first for Katie Quackenbush. She said she did not know that the man was hit by the gunfire.

Jesse Quackenbush, an attorney in Texas, told BuzzFeed News that Melton asked Katie to turn her music down, leaned into the window of her vehicle, called her a "sand nigger whore", and threatened to kill her and her passenger because he couldn't sleep.

Quackenbush is accused of getting out of the SUV with a gun and, as the argument continued, firing two shots at Melton, hitting him in the abdomen. He said she only meant to fire warning shots, not hit Melton.

"She said she shut her eyes when she shot the two times, however they were notices, and she thought she pointed far from him", Jesse reviewed.

Jesse told the newspaper that his daughter fired two "warning shots" and then left.

When asked whether his daughter heard Melton scream or indicate he had been shot, Jesse Quackenbush said there was no indication he was injured. The Washington Post spoke with one manager, Sharon Corbitt-House, who tried to help Melton get off the street when she discovered how talented he is.

Jesse Quackenbush said her record was cleared when that charge was dismissed.

Katie Quackenbush has released several YouTube music videos of her songs under the name Katie Layne.

She and her friend drove away thinking Melton was still coming for her but did not realize Melton was struck.

In October 2013, officers with the Amarillo Police Department arrested Quackenbush and charged her with misdemeanor domestic violence.
