Raiders place Sebastian Janikowski on injured reserve sign Tavecchio

Janikowski's back injury finally opened the door for Tavecchio to kick during the regular season.

Also, Tavecchio is also the first undrafted player in franchise history to hit a pair of field goals from at least 50 yards, according to the Raiders' public relations team.

To take his place, they have signed Giorgio Tavecchio from the practice squad.

Janikowski has been in the news recently due to a contract dispute with the Raiders. He made 3-of-4 field goals and 5-of-6 extra points for the Raiders during the 2017 preseason.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport says Janikowski won't need surgery on his back and could return in eight weeks.

Despite bouncing around training camps the last few seasons, Tavecchio has yet to appear in an National Football League game.

Tavecchio may only get a one-week tryout as Oakland could look to sign a more proven kicker next week now that the team knows Janikowski will be out for a significant amount of time. Having him back for the second half of the season would provide a big boost for Oakland.
