"You're not going to beat a Top 10 team in the country turning the ball over", Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said. "Some people think it's a rivalry game, some people don't". But we worked to our standard, a championship standard. This week, we beat Pittsburgh and it was a great win.

Last Saturday, Pitt blew a 21-0 first half lead but eventually struggled to an overtime victory against FCS opponent Youngstown State 28-21. "They're coached really well". Allen is a special player and makes everyone around him better, everything changes when No. 2 isn't on the field for Penn State. - Quadree Henderson leaping into Brian O'Neill's arms to celebrate a first-quarter touchdown and James Conner crossing the goal line for the decisive score were some of the iconic images of Pitt's win over Penn State last September.

Penn State hasn't been sharp in this game, one it should have run away with, on paper. "You guys saw the signs and heard what they were saying".

The Penn State Nittany Lions play the Pittsburgh Panthers in one of the college football games on Saturday, start time at 3:30 PM ET, at Beaver Stadium, Pennsylvania.

Penn State opened its season with a dominant 52-0 win over Akron last week.

Then there was the matter of Pitt's ball-hoggery.

There are many reasons for Penn State not to want to play Pitt and some of them are good ones.

"We play our style of football", Lions linebacker Koa Farmer said. "We fed off that play".

The fans view the showdown with a different game plan.

It's the kind of thing that proves that Pitt and Penn State are, in fact the thing that Franklin is attempting to assure you that they are not: rivals.

After losing to the Panthers last season, in the first matchup since 2000, the Nittany Lions, ranked the No. 4 team in the nation, expected to steamroll a lowly Panther squad that will be lucky to finish the season with a winning record.

Clairton's Lamont Wade made a reference to the Pitt coaching staff getting keychains made after a year ago victory on Twitter.

"It was Week 2", Barkley continued. Asked if there's anything he's trying to repeat before their staggering upset of eventual national champion Clemson in Death Valley previous year, Narduzzi just laughed. I mean, I feel sorry for Akron getting caught in the crossfire, but that's going to happen sometimes. I think our schedule is set through 2026 or something like that.

But the images of those season-ending rumbles between Penn State and Pitt are too far gone for the next generation to appreciate.
