The Opposition has been criticising the Government for not having a "full-time" Defence Minister amid border tensions with Pakistan and China. President Kovind will be back from Tirupati on Saturday while Shah is likely to come back from the RSS Meet at Mathura for the swearing-in.

Rudy was among three ministers - the other two were steel minister Choudhury Birendra Singh and minister of state for human resource development Upendra Kushwaha - who met the BJP president last week. Maurya is a part of UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath's Cabinet and one of the state's two deputy chief ministers.
